How The Detroit Of Asia Is Becoming India's Defence Corridor.
Chennai has long been recognised as the “Detroit of Asia” for its deep automotive manufacturing base, engineering talent and extensive supplier ecosystem. Today, that industrial strength is increasingly spilling into the defence sector, positioning the city and the wider Tamil Nadu region as an emerging defence corridor. With established manufacturing capabilities, a strong MSME base, skilled talent and growing investments in aerospace and defence, Chennai is well placed to support India’s push for greater defence self-reliance. The convergence of manufacturing, technology and innovation is creating new opportunities for businesses to move from automotive and engineering into defence production, while strengthening the broader India Advantage in building globally competitive defence capabilities.
